I love that commercial from Etrade. However, as an athlete or a parent of a athlete that competes in tournaments or showcases, you must make sure that the events are sanctioned, meaning they are “legal” and acknowledge by a governing body like AAU, or the NCAA. Arizona University gave themselves self imposed sanctions because of alleged violations in soliciting funds for the organization than ran a premier basketball event in AZ. The AAU is involved because the group stated they were a sacationed event, which means it would draw preimer basketball teams in AAU. This was not the case. AAU states that the organizer was not a memeber nor had their blessing to put their name on the event. While those who participated in the event are not in trouble, I would bet many teams would not have gone if they knew the event was not sanctioned by AAU. Bottom line, the athlete still loses out, because Arizona University will not be able to bring in as many scholarship athletes and will not be able to play in the post season. Know the rules.
